Former India captain Virat Kohli was unlucky to get out LBW for 23 runs in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka, which began today at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The talismanic run-scorer looked in the zone during his 48-ball stay at the crease and played within the arc. However, Dhananjaya de Silva trapped Kohli in his first over with a ball that didn't bounce at all.

The 33-year-old cricketer was shocked by the nature of the wicket and stood for a minute in utter disbelief before making a long walk back to the pavilion.

Fans on Twitter were certainly not happy with how the Chinnaswamy track has behaved in the first session of the Test match.

Kohli came out to bat at the expense of captain Rohit Sharma amid huge cheers from the Chinnaswamy crowd. He looked assured of his defense even when the wicket was showing its true colors.

The former skipper and Hanuma Vihari looked well-settled to bail India out after the hosts lost both openers early. However, Vihari was dismissed by Praveen Jayawickrama before Dhananjaya de Silva got the better of Virat Kohli in the next over with a ball that didn't jump at all after it pitched.

Kohli managed to score just 23 runs from 48 deliveries, which included two boundaries as his wait for the 71st international century continues.

The home side went to tea at 78/4 on the first day of the pink-ball Test with Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer in the middle.

"The bad patch has gone for too long" - Rashid Latif on Virat Kohli's lean form

Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif recently insisted that Kohli has gone without scoring a century for too long and should get back to scoring quickly. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Latif said:

“It is time for him to score runs. The bad patch has gone for too long. He has got a great chance here. People are very concerned over his century, but I think he will be slamming a hundred either in this Test or in the next two-three games."

He added:

“He had internal problems and lost his captaincy, went out of form. The opposition also works on his weakness and they are bowling him according to the plan.”

Kohli last scored an international century in November of 2019 against Bangladesh, which was his 70th hundred.
