“I’m officially on the road to recovery” – KL Rahul undergoes successful surgery

KL Rahul, who has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 and World Test Championship (WTC) final, underwent successful surgery on Tuesday, May 9. The 31-year-old also confirmed that he has officially entered rehabilitation.

The development comes a week after the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper injured his thigh while fielding against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Lucknow on May 1.

The right-handed batter will now look to come back stronger ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place later this year.

KL Rahul took to Instagram to confirm the developments and wrote:

“Hi everyone, I just got done with my surgery – it was successful. A big thank you to the doctors and medical staff for making sure I was comfortable and everything went smoothly.”

The Karnataka batter continued:

“I’m officially on the road to recovery now. I’m determined to get back to my best and get back on the field. Onwards and upwards!”

Reacting to the post, Bollywood superstar and Rahul’s father-in-law, Suniel Shetty, replied with heartwarming emojis.

LSG’s official Instagram handle also dropped a beautiful message for their skipper:

“Can’t wait to see you back on the field, Kaptaan.”

KL Rahul to begin rehab at NCA

As per the BCCI, KL Rahul now undergo his rehabilitat at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after being officially ruled out of the WTC final.

The BCCI's latest update on KL Rahul:

"After consultations with specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same. He is ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia."

Meanwhile, BCCI has named wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan as Rahul's replacement. The 24-year-old will serve as a backup wicketkeeper for KS Bharat.

The selectors have also included three stand-by players for the ICC’s marquee event namely Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, and Suryakumar Yadav.
