PCB announce dates for PSL 9: Lahore Qalandars to face Islamabad United in tournament opener

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the dates for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The ninth season of the tournament will get underway on February 17 as defending champions Lahore Qalandars square off with two-time title winners Islamabad United. The final will take place in Karachi on March 18.

The 9th edition of the tournament will take place in four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. The 34-match competition will see Karachi stage 11 matches, including the qualifier, two eliminators, and a decider. Lahore and Rawalpindi will host nine fixtures each, while Multan has been awarded five games.

The ninth season of the event will take place in two legs, with 14 matches set to be hosted between February 17 and 27 at the Multan Cricket Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

The caravan will move to the Pindi Cricket Stadium and Karachi's National Bank Stadium, both of which will host 16 matches from February 28 to March 12. Karachi will host the entirety of the playoffs.

PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf stated that their decision to keep the tournament across these four cities is to bring the best cricketing action for the fans in the country and hopes that the sport also extends to the grassroots level.

As quoted by pcb.co.pk, he stated:

"We are thrilled to announce that the HBL Pakistan Super League's ninth edition is set to kick off on February 17, showcasing the best of T20 cricket in four cities across Pakistan. The decision to host the marquee event across these cities is a testament to our commitment to bring top-notch cricket to fans across the country."

He added:

"We believe that hosting matches in these venues not only adds to the excitement for fans but also promotes cricket at the grassroots level. As we gear up for this spectacular event, we look forward to witnessing thrilling action and creating unforgettable moments for cricket enthusiasts worldwide."

The Qalandars, under Shaheen Shah Afridi, clinched their second consecutive title last year.
