RCB vs CSK: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2024?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With the win, their sixth consecutive triumph in the tournament, RCB also confirmed their place in the playoffs, marking a stunning turnaround from six successive losses.

Sent into bat, RCB came up with an excellent all-round effort to put up 218-5. Chasing 219 for victory and 201 to qualify for playoffs, CSK finished on 191-7, bowing out of IPL 2024.

There were some tense moments towards the end of the thrilling game as Ravindra Jadeja (42* off 22) and MS Dhoni (25 off 13) added 61 for the seventh wicket. It all came down to CSK needing 17 off the last over to qualify.

Dhoni slammed the first ball from Yash Dayal behind the wicket for a huge six. The RCB pacer, though, had his revenge the very next ball, as the CSK legend miscued a slower ball and was caught in the deep. Dayal closed out the match superbly, not conceding a boundary off the last four balls.

Earlier, CSK got off to a disastrous start as skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad fell first ball, guiding a half-tracker from Glenn Maxwell straight to short fine leg. Daryl Mitchell (4) also perished cheaply, miscuing a lofted hit off Dayal to Virat Kohli.

Rachin Ravindra (61 off 37) and Ajinkya Rahane (33 off 22) brought CSK back into the contest, adding 66 for the third wicket.

Both batters played with freedom to lift Chennai to 58-2 by the end of the powerplay. Just as the chasing side seemed to be getting into a decent position, Rahane perished, miscuing a leg-cutter off Lockie Ferguson.

Ravindra was run out following a horrible mix-up with Shivam Dube. The latter, himself, fell for a forgettable 7 off 15. A one-handed stunner from Faf du Plessis sent Mitchell Santner (3) on his way. Jadeja and Dhoni fought till the end, but it was meant to be RCB's day and deservedly so.

RCB batters rise to the challenge

Sent into bat, Kohli (47 off 29) and Du Plessis (54 off 39) led the early charge, adding 78 for the first wicket in 9.4 overs. They raced away to 31-0 in three overs before rain interrupted proceedings. Luckily for Bengaluru, the break didn't hamper the momentum of their openers.

The dazzling stand ended when Kohli fell to Santner immediately after hitting the CSK left-arm spinner for a six. The opener slapped one against the turn and was smartly caught by Mitchell at the long-on ropes.

Du Plessis completed a fine half-century before he was run-out in unlucky fashion at the non-striker's end, with Santner getting a finger tip on a Rajat Patidar straight drive.

RCB, though, recovered swiftly from the setback, as Patidar (41 off 23) and Cameron Green (38* off 17) added 71 for the third wicket. The duo went hammer and tongs, and it didn't help that Gaikwad dropped a simple catch offered by Green off Shardul Thakur in the 16th over.

After a barrage of fours and sixes, the stand ended when Mitchell took another brilliant juggling catch at straightish long-on. Impressive cameos from Dinesh Karthik (14 off 6) and Maxwell (16 off 5) took RCB past the 215-run mark.
