Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been appointed as the new head coach of the United States of America (USA) Men's Cricket Team. The 55-year-old's first assignment with the team will be the upcoming three-match T20I series at home against Bangladesh which begins on Monday, May 20.

Law has been at the helm of affairs for Bangladesh and West Indies in the past apart from serving Sri Lanka and Afghanistan on an interim basis. He has also worked as the batting coach of the Australian Men's Cricket Team.

The United States of America recently defeated Canada 4-0 in the five-match T20I series which was played at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston. The third game of the series was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to wet field conditions. Meanwhile, the three T20Is against Bangladesh will also be played at the same venue.

"USA is one of the strongest Associate nations in the sport" - Stuart Law

In a prestigious occasion, the USA will be co-hosting the 2024 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in June along with the West Indies. It will also be the first ever time an ICC tournament will played on their soil.

An elated Stuart Law opened up about his new role by terming it as an 'exciting opportunity' to join USA Cricket when the nation is preparing itself for the grand ICC tournament. He also heaped praise on the Men's Cricket Team and sounded optimistic about forming a formidable squad for the future.

Law said in a statement:

"It is an exciting opportunity to join USA cricket at this time. USA is one of the strongest Associate nations in the sport, and I believe that we can mold a formidable squad going ahead. The first task will be to prepare the team for the series against Bangladesh and then set our sights on our home World Cup, which will be huge."

USA Cricket chairman Venu Pisike was equally excited to welcome the new head coach. Venu spoke highly about Stuart Law whose appointment he believes will help the team grow to their full potential.

The boss of the country's cricketing board stated:

"Stuart is one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport. He brings a lot of experience to USA Cricket with his varied assignments, particularly in developing international sides over the years. His appointment will only help the team grow to their full potential. We are excited to have Stuart on board just before the World Cup and look forward to lots of successes together."

USA will begin their 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on Saturday, June 1, at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. They have been placed in Group A which also comprises India, Pakistan and Ireland.
