"The guys weren't too happy with me trying to block the ball" - Cameron Green on reaching his century against SRH

Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Cameron Green spoke about the last few balls leading up to his magnificent century during his team's must-win encounter against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, May 21.

Green's sensational knock of 100* off 47 deliveries consisted of eight fours and as many sixes as he helped MI chase down SRH's daunting total of 200/5 comfortably with eight wickets and two overs to spare.

After the game, the 23-year-old from Western Australia spoke to the franchise's social media handle on the last couple of balls, with him a couple of runs away from the landmark and the team needing three runs to win.

"Pretty crazy," Green said. "It was funny looking at the scoreboard and all the guys weren't too happy with me trying to block the ball so I think I had to go for the last ball, but a pretty cool feeling."

Cameron Green also spoke about the discussions with Suryakumar Yadav when he was on 98, and MI needed three runs to win.

"Me and SKY met halfway and we were like...need 4 runs, and you can basically get two singles if you want," he said. "That was probably more coming from me than SKY, I think SKY said just go for it, but pretty silly looking back at it."

Nevertheless, amidst the nervy moments, Cameron Green completed his century and kept MI's hopes of qualifying for the IPL 2023 playoffs alive.

A few hours later, the Gujarat Titans defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bangalore in the last over of the match to help MI qualify for the playoffs.

"Right up there in my T20 career" - Cameron Green on his maiden IPL century against SRH

Cameron Green also rated his maiden IPL century against the SunRisers Hyderabad up there among his best-ever T20 knocks.

Green's scintillating 47-ball century helped MI book their place in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. Speaking after the game, Green said:

"Right up there in my T20 career. Obviously, It's incredible to bat at Wankhede, the wicket's always beautiful here, the outfield is rapid, so all you've to do is hit through the line and you are probably going to hit the middle of the bat."

He also spoke about the experience of playing for the Mumbai Indians and their fan base.

"You don't have to be in Wankhede to feel the love from Mumbai when you go everywhere, our fan base is really big, with all the guys we've in our team - Rohit, SKY, the fan base is really high so wherever we go kind of feels like a home game, so it's pretty incredible playing for Mumbai," he added.

The all-rounder was signed by the Mumbai Indians in the mini-auction late last year for a whopping ₹17.50 crores, fighting off stiff competition from the Delhi Capitals.

Cameron Green hasn't disappointed in his debut season, scoring 381 runs in 14 matches at an average of 54.43 and a strike rate of 159.41 while also picking up six wickets.

MI will take on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Eliminator in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24.
