[Watch] Faf du Plessis takes one of the best catches of IPL 2024 during CSK vs RCB clash

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis took a stunning catch during the second innings of the IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday (May 18) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was a critical moment in the match as it dented CSK's innings further by leaving them six down, with just 129 on the board in the chase of 219.

The special moment happened on the last ball of the 15th over, bowled by Mohammed Siraj. To a low full-toss on the offside, CSK all-rounder Mitchell Santner tried to hit it over the mid-off fielder. For an instant, it looked like the ball might beat him and run away for a four. However, Faf du Plessis timed his jump perfectly and completed a sensational leaping catch.

CSK went on to lose the match by 27 runs and bowed out of IPL 2024, while RCB advanced to the playoffs

RCB batted first in the must-win clash and notched up a high score of 218/5 on the back of contributions from Faf du Plessis (54) and Virat Kohli (47), Cameron Green (38), and Rajat Patidar (41).

Glenn Maxwell then gave a perfect start to RCB in the chase by dismissing the opposition captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, for a golden duck and setting the tone. His peers complimented his efforts to keep their side ahead for the majority of the time in the second innings.

Rachin Ravindra (61) and Ajinkya Rahane (33) put CSK in the contest in the first half, while Ravindra Jadeja (42*) and MS Dhoni (25) played blazing cameos in the death overs. However, the middle order failed to chip in with contributions in the middle overs, which eventually led to CSK's 27-run loss.

Reflecting on the win after the match, Faf du Plessis said:

"What a night it was unbelievable. It's great to finish this in front of our fans. Myself and Virat was talking about the score after the rain. There were a lot of rain falling on the pitch and I was having a chat with the umpires. Me and Virat were chatting to get through these phase. The contribution from many batters is the highlight of our batting line-up."
