Mumbai Indians (MI) will host Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 67 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Wankhede Stadium on Friday (May 17). The Super Giants are still fighting for a place in the playoffs, while already eliminated Mumbai will look to finish the tournament with a victory.

The two teams have locked horns five times in IPL, with the Super Giants leading Mumbai 4:1 in head-to-head battles. Lucknow beat MI by four wickets in their most recent meeting at Ekana Cricket Stadium this season on April 30.

Asked to bat first, MI posted 144/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Nehal Wadhera starred with the bat, scoring 46 runs off 41 balls in an innings laced with two sixes and four boundaries. Tim David and Ishan Kishan also chipped in with 35* (18) and 32 (36), respectively.

Mohsin Khan was the pick of LSG bowlers, returning with two wickets, while Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi bagged one each.

In response, the Super Giants achieved the target with four balls to spare. Marcus Stoinis smashed 62 off 45 deliveries with the help of two sixes and seven boundaries. Captain KL Rahul scored 28 off 22, while Deepak Hooda and Nicholas Pooran chipped in with run-a-ball 18 and 14*, respectively.

Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets for MI, while Mohammad Nabi, Nuwan Thushara and Gerald Coetzee scalped one apiece.

MI’s scorecard from their last IPL game

MI lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs at Eden Gardens in their last IPL game on May 11.

Asked to bat first, KKR posted 157/7 in their allotted 16 overs in a rain-shortened game. They got off to a poor start as the in-form openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt departed early. Soon after, captain Shreyas Iyer departed for just seven off 10 balls.

Venkatesh Iyer starred with the bat, scoring 42 off 21, including two sixes and six boundaries. Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh chipped in with 33 (23), 24 (14) and 20 (12), respectively. Ramandeep Singh provided the final flourish, hitting an unbeaten 17 off eight balls.

Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla picked up two wickets each for MI, while Nuwan Thushara and Anshul Kamboj bagged one wicket apiece.

In response, MI managed 139/8 in 16 overs. Ishan Kishan top scored with 40 off 22, hitting two sixes and five boundaries. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir chipped in with 32 (17) and 17 (6). Rohit Sharma (19 off 24) and Suryakumar Yadav (11 off 14) got starts but failed to take the team over the line.

Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Andre Russell bagged two wickets each for the Knight Riders, while Sunil Narine settled for one.

LSG’s scorecard from their last IPL game

LSG lost to Delhi Capitals by 19 runs in their last IPL game at Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 14.

Asked to bat first, DC posted 208/4 in 20 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk departed for a two-ball duck but Abishek Porel and Shai Hope shared a 92-run partnership for the second wicket. Porel smashed 58 off 33, hitting four sixes and five boundaries.

Shai Hope and captain Rishabh Pant chipped in with 38 (27) and 33 (23), respectively. Tristan Stubbs provided the late blitz, smashing 57 off 25 deliveries, including four sixes and three boundaries.

Naveen-ul-Haq bagged two wickets for LSG, while Arshad Khan and Ravi Bishnoi picked up one each.

In response, the Super Giants managed 189/9. The visitors got off to the worst possible start as their top order failed to deliver. Nicholas Pooran starred with the bat, scoring 61 off 27 in an innings laced with four sixes and six boundaries.

Arshad Khan played a fighting knock of an unbeaten 58 off 33 with the help of five sixes and three boundaries. Krunal Pandya scored run-a-ball 18.

Ishant Sharma was the pick of DC bowlers, finishing with excellent figures of 3/34, while Khaleel Ahmed, Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Tristan Stubbs bagged one wicket each.
