Ahead of his 40th birthday, Sachin Tendulkar got his birthday present in the form of news that his statue will be unveiled besides that of Don Bradman at SCG in Sydney.

On Saturday, cricket fans at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia will witness the inauguration of Tendulkar’s waxwork courtesy Madame Tussauds.

The waxwork is estimated to be a replica of the one in London which will be put on display later in the museum at the picturesque Darling Harbour, near the Sydney Aquarium.

Tendulkar’s waxwork will be on display alongside statues of Sir Don Bradman and Shane Warne. The Little Master was delighted to receive the honour. When asked whether the honour was a fine birthday gift, he replied: “It is, it’s nice that it coincides with my birthday. It’s a wonderful way to start.”

“Anything to do with Sir Don is always an honour. I’m really happy and excited,” he said, revisting the memories of his 1998 trip to Bradman’s house in Adelaide to wish him on his 90th birthday. “That was a special experience for me; the highlight of my life. I remember catching up with Warnie some time after that trip and speaking about the visit,” he concluded.

Tendulkar also told Mid Day on Thursday night ahead of Mumbai Indians’ clash with Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League: “The SCG is my favourite ground — without any doubt, so it makes it even more special. I have some wonderful memories of that ground.”

Tendulkar has scored three Test centuries at the SCG including a mammoth 241 not out in 2004 — his best Test score then.
