Satire: Rohit Sharma's letter to Sportskeeda

Dear Sportskeeda,

I’ve heard a lot in my circles about the amazing platform that your site has been for inspiring the future of India. But then I saw how infamous I became in here, thanks to your encouragement. And therefore I dropped by to leave a personal message of appreciation. Gratitude actually!

Before I get to writing, let me assure you that I have got as much talent with the pen as I yield the bat. And therefore ask that you do not edit what I want to say, because this letter is dedicated to all those million Indian (and even foreign hopefully) fans of mine.

I don’t mind if it sounds a bit muddled because I wrote this at 12 last night, after a little extravagant celebration party (because I rediscovered form it seems!) when I was half out of my senses. But trust me, every single word is from my heart.

I always wanted to be a role model for the future generations like the way I grew up admiring and imitating my icons. But somewhere along the way, I forgot the distinction between the two.

I’ve always ended up as the media’s darling of controversy, for reasons I don’t understand. It’s just that I take pressure to heart and appear calm on the surface like my captain. And to soothe my nerves after the game, I end up taking a large share of the spirit. Inevitably, therefore most IPL’s end up as a hangover!

For long, I thought form is temporary, while talent is eternal, forgetting that talent is permanent but form is temporary.

It never seemed to me that I’d taken someone else’s place because I always walked out believing that I deserved it. I even had the view that most said ‘God walks out at No.4 in the Indian team for the ODI’s’. In fact, as I saw it, with me, DC lifted the IPL trophy. But once I left, Gayatri lost hope and her money. They closed and left!

Frankly the stares from Manoj in the dressing room never made sense to me for long.

Until, suddenly the game became a hang-over on the field.

I’d become the national topic of jokes and ridicule. Even on Sportskeeda, innumerable articles were everywhere. A Satire about my retire, My letter to god! The humor with rumor; all my sad loss become your cheerful gain!

At first, it seemed so cruel, like I was being singled out and beheaded. WTF!

But then reading your articles, I learnt my lesson. I realized how much I meant to all of you and therefore got back to shaping myself into a man again.

I promise to never let you down again.

My dearest supporter, a heart-felt thanks for being by my side in my darkest hour and trusting me when I foolishly faltered. I assure you there’s a long way ahead for both of us together.

And for those who walked away, I know I will rightfully earn you back.

And therefore, this is a letter of gratitude to you Sportskeeda. You are the reason that’s inspired my comeback. Thanks a tin…oops ton!

And here’s a parting oath. I shall work my way up to the legend I was born to be, and become the future leader of your hopes.

Anyway here is to you. Three cheers….

Yours in admiration,

Rohit.
