Things couldn’t have gone worse for the West Indies captain, Jason Holder as he was fined for slow over rate after the Windies lost to the Australians in the first test at Hobart as reported by IBNLive.

Australia came out on top against the West Indies by defeating them by an innings and 212 runs within just 3 days. Holder was caught with a slow over rate and was fined 60% of his match fee as penalty. He could even get a match ban if the visitors do the same again.

According to an International Cricket Council report, “(Match referee) Chris Broad imposed the fine after Jason Holder's side was ruled to be three overs short of its target when time allowances were taken into consideration.”

Holder was 3 overs short of the target during the first test and every player was fined 10% of the match fees for every over the team was short, and Holder took the double amount being the captain.

Defeat not a step backwards: Holder

The next match takes off in Melbourne and the 3rd one in Sydney. If West Indies are slow in any of the next 2 matches, Holder will be forced to sit out for a match.

Jason Holder has faced this kind of a ban quite a number of times now and he wouldn’t want the same to happen yet again with his side being thumped down under. The Windies captain missed a One Day International against Sri Lanka last month for the same reason and is again in trouble for the next 2 matches ahead of him.

Holder pleaded his suspension and accepted the sanction according to the reports. Holder, who is confident about his side, also said that this is not a step backwards for his team, “"I wouldn't say it's a step backwards, obviously in the past we've shown that we can compete.”

Holder looks confident about his team, but what matters more right now is his presence on the field as a captain and a hard check on the over rate in the upcoming matches.
