Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne has said that he is not jealous of his teammate Daniel Ricciardo after he was chosen to be the Mark Webber‘s successor at Red Bull.

“I’m not jealous, I am really happy for him. Red Bull took the right decision to take a Red Bull driver next year,” he told Autosport.

The Ricciardo-deal means that Vergne will have to spend his third season with Toro Rosso having missed out on the big ticket, that of partnering Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull.

“He [Ricciardo] is better than me on certain aspects, but I think I’m better than him in certain aspects as well. Right now, it’s a bit disappointing but who knows? In the future, maybe it will be a good thing to stay at Toro Rosso and get one more year to learn everything and get more experience,” he added.

He also said that he is not looking to prove Red Bull wrong as he feels that the results speak for themselves.

“I don’t need to prove that I can be in the seat, when you look at Daniel’s results and mine they are really similar. I ended up with more points last year and I have more points than him right now,” he said.
