Formula 1 team McLaren are poised to secure the services of Red Bull’s head of aerodynamics Peter Prodromou, BBC Sport reports.

Prodromou previously worked for McLaren under design chief Adrian Newey from 2000-2005 who is now also with Red Bull. Top sources from McLaren remain mum on this development.

Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team boss, stated that Prodromou would remain with the f1 champions “for some time”.

A spokeswoman added: “Peter Prodromou has worked with Red Bull Racing for a long time, he’s a valuable member of the team and there’s some considerable time remaining on his current contract with us.

“We would be very happy to continue working with him in the future, He’s part of a very strong technical team, led by Adrian Newey.”

Prodromou was signed by Newey as soon as he joined Red Bull in 2005 and has a contract with the champions which expires in 2014.

The duo have made Red Bull what it is today and has the best aerodynamics in the pit lane which has helped the team win three consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ title doubles and look sure to win again for the fourth time in a row.

McLaren have kept Prodromou’s place in the team closely guarded but it is rumored that he will be heading the design team that will build the cars for the 2015 season.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh had previously stated that a “headline -grabbing signing” will be made during his speech at the Korean Grand Prix last week and he has definitely kept his word with the signing of Prodromou.

Whitmarsh said: “We’ve been recruiting in the technical team, strengthening that quite a lot. There have been quite a few new starters already, there are some as yet unannounced that will be headline-grabbing when they get announced.

“So there are things going on. We have to look to ourselves as a team from the top of our management to our technical team to make sure we return to winning ways as soon as possible.”

Prodromou’s signature did not come cheap as Red Bull are known to keep their leading experts out of reach from rivals. McLaren, who will tie up with Japanese company Honda for an engineering partnership in 2015, seemed to have pulled off a major victory with the re-signing of their former core team member.

McLaren are keen to get Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso to join their ranks and hope to do so by 2015.

The Spaniard has stated that he will honour his contract with Ferrari and hopes to extend it after it expires in 2015.
