Fernando Alonso reveals that the legacy that he wants to leave behind is of a driver that was able to perform at a very high level this late into his career. The Spaniard is now 41 years of age and even at this age he is performing at a very high level.

In the first five races of the season, the Spaniard has four podiums to his name. All of this did not seem possible last season when he did not have a car capable of achieving these results.

Having said that, it's hard to ignore the monumental success of Fernando Alonso despite taking a break from the sport in 2018 and not losing an inch in terms of competitiveness when he came back.

Talking to the Italian publication La Gazzetta, when questioned about what kind of legacy he wants to leave behind, Fernando Alonso revealed that he wanted to leave the legacy of a driver that continued to be competitive at this advanced age. He also added that he was looking to settle down and start a family as well. He said:

“The legacy I will leave will be the love for this sport, so great that I continue to practice it for many years, remaining at a very high level. It was one of the goals I set for myself when I returned."
"Other dreams? I want to have a family. This is the biggest dream of my life. I haven't gotten there yet due to my lifestyle. It's something that, when I stop running, I'll find happiness."

"The third title would be the big dream" - Fernando Alonso

The driver was quite pragmatic as he revealed that he knew he would not be in F1 for long. He also talked about how a third world title would be the big dream for him.

Fernando Alonso said:

"I am aware of my age, I know that I will not be here (in F1; ed) for the next 10 years, so when I stop racing I will somehow maintain my relationship with Aston Martin."
"The third title would be the big dream. Winning a championship would be something perfect. If I won another World Cup, all these years after the previous one, it would be something unprecedented. This is my goal for the moment".

Fernando Alonso has been nothing short of spectacular in F1 at the moment. The Spaniard has been doing an amazing job and the success is there for all to see.
