Liverpool are currently at the top of the Premier League standings with 54 points and are one of the favorites to win the league title this season. The Reds have lost only one Premier League game so far this season, while conceding just 10 goals. Meanwhile, Manchester City are on 50 points.

However, there are still some improvements to be made in the Liverpool squad, and Jurgen Klopp could use the January transfer window as an opportunity to further enhance his team.

On this note, here is a list of three players Liverpool could target in the winter transfer window in order to win the much-awaited Premier League trophy.

#3 Llyod Kelly

The Reds faced a defensive crisis during the last few weeks due to injuries to Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, and Joe Gomez. That left them with Virgil van Dijk as the only senior center-back available.

The Merseyside-based club needs a new center-back who can help them cope with the injuries and Bristol City's youngster, Llyod Kelly, is a perfect man for that job.

Often compared with Joe Gomez, Kelly is capable of playing anywhere across the back line and can give the Reds a defensive cover at left-back as well as right-back. He has thus far, shown maturity beyond his years with his displays for the Robins and is strong in the air as well.

Kelly has won 2.3 aerial duels per game in the Championship this season and completed 503 passes with an accuracy of 67.2. He has also made 53 clearances along with 23 interceptions in 22 games.

The 20-year-old is being linked with the Reds during recent weeks and we might see Klopp making a move for him in the current transfer window. However, he is also on the radar of other big clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, which might force the Reds to pay a little more than expected to secure his services.

#2 Lorenzo Insigne

Liverpool's midfield has done a good job so far this season and played a vital role in the Reds' unbeaten run.

However, Philippe Coutinho's departure to Barcelona in the January transfer window last season left a huge void in the squad, and the Reds often plays without an attacking midfielder on the pitch. Jurgen Klopp needs a new attacking midfielder to take his team forward and Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne is a perfect candidate to replace the Brazilian.

Best known for his dribbling, vision, and passing skills, he is at his best when playing behind the striker. He is also pretty versatile and can play on either wing or even as a center forward.

Insigne often finds the best pass for attackers to thrive on and is capable of scoring goals from the distance as well. His was at his prolific best in 2016-2017 season, when he scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in the league.

The 27-year-old was linked with Liverpool to replace Phillipe Coutinho in the last summer transfer window and the Merseysiders could again turn their attention towards the Italian in the current window.

#1 Timo Werner

Jurgen Klopp has used Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino as the main strikers this season and managed to achieve success with both of them. However, they are not traditional strikers - Salah is a winger while Firmino is an attacking midfielder - and subsequently, they often struggle to perform against physically strong defenders.

Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are the back-ups available to the Reds but the duo lack match fitness due to the game time offered to them. Thus, Liverpool need a new striker to help them win the Premier League this season.

RB Leipzig's Timo Werner was linked with the Reds during the recent weeks. Quick, hard-working and technically sound, Werner was Leipzig's top goalscorer in all competitions last season and the German seems like a perfect striker that Liverpool need at the moment.

He has continued his wonderful form this season as well and has already bagged 11 goals and two assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances this campaign.

The 22-year-old was also linked with Bayern Munich and Chelsea recently and Liverpool might have to pay a hefty fee to lure the talented striker to Anfield.
