Tunis - Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles defeated Algeria 1-0 in their first match in Group D in the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
Tunisia’s goal Tuesday evening was the work of its star player, Youssef Msakni, whose last-minute shot in overtime gave his team a much coveted victory in an otherwise uneventful and rather tense match, reports Xinhua.
The 22-year-old striker signed with a Qatari club for a transfer premium of 11.5 million euros this year.
Tunisia’s next match will be against Cote d’Ivoire which defeated Togo 2-1 Tuesday.
