Ancelloti's effect on EPL

With the announcement of Carlo Ancelotti as the new manager of Real Madrid, anticipation is building over a lot of things that can happen at the club this season, which could not only affect the outcome of the La Liga but of the English Premier League as well.

Last season can be termed as a disaster for the Galacticos as they were unable to defend their La Liga crown, losing it to Barcelona by a considerable margin as well as being comprehensively beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the two legged semifinals of the Champions League.

The Spanish giants were given another moral setback when the Brazilian superstar Neymar chose to join Barcelona, their main title rivals, over them, in-spite of their substantial efforts to sign the talisman.

A lot is expected from the new boss as Real Madrid is looking to recapture their La Liga crown and establish their dominance in Europe. But, it is interesting to note that Ancelotti’s actions in the transfer market can not only influence the outcome of the Spanish league but also of the English Premier League. Let us have a look at things that could effect various Premier League clubs :

Selling Higuain to Arsenal

Over the past few weeks, it has been widely rumored that Gonzalo Higuain is on his way out of Real Madrid after publicly stating his intentions to leave the Spanish outfit. This has alerted a host of clubs all around the world, with the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and PSG looking to capture the star player. With Juventus recently completing the signing of Carlos Tevez from Manchester City, it looks more likely that Higuain is now Arsenal bound, amidst all the rumours linking him to the North London club. This would provide Arsenal with a much needed finisher who is deadly in front of goal and also reassure the fans that their manager is looking to sign some star players to bolster his squad. And perhaps, it could mark a new era for Arsenal under Arsene Wenger.

Signing Spanish U21 star Isco

Yesterday, it was announced that Real Madrid have completed the signing of Spanish U21 international, Isco, from Malaga, who rejected the chance of joining his “football-father”, Manuel Pellegrini at his new club Manchester City ahead of signing for the Bernabeu based side. This could very well be the first major effect that the new Real Madrid manager have on the Premier League, with City desperately in need of talented midfield players after some poor performances by the existing midfielders like Gareth Barry, Samir Nasri and James Milner last season. It is believed that the reason behind City’s failure to defend their Premier League title was the lack of consistency shown by their midfielders. Isco being one of the primary targets could well have been the solution of that problem only if he had signed for the Citizens.

Destroying Spurs by taking away Bale

After failing in their bid to sign the Brazilian forward Neymar, Real Madrid have turned their attention towards another last season’s star performer in Gareth Bale. The Tottenham Hotspurs man had a terrific season, almost guiding Tottenham to the Champions League spot. Not many would disagree that Tottenham’s great run in last season’s Premier League was largely due to the presence of he Welshman in their team. The importance of Bale was evident when he got injured for a couple of weeks just before the end of the season and Tottenham struggled to find the desired results in his absence. Taking him away from Tottenham will surely reduce their chances of challenging for the Champions League spot next season. But they have to ward off strong competition from Manchester United, who are also said to be interested in the winger.

Signing Cavani ahead of City and Chelsea

Another player on top of many clubs’ wishlist is Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan star is in phenomenal form off late and is considered to be one of the best strikers in the world today. Clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea are said to be after the player, along with Real Madrid.

The lack of a 25-goal a season striker in Chelsea’s squad is said to be the major concern which needs to be addressed by their new manager Jose Mourinho. He is said to be in the market for an out-an-out striker, after preparing for the departures of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba. It is reported that Cavani is at the top of his wishlist.

Pellegrini, too, is in the transfer market in search of a striker, having publicly stated that a player like Cavani surely interests him. Having let Carlos Tevez leave the Etihad stadium, he has made his intentions clear that he will be looking for a striker to strengthen his attack this summer.

Madrid, on the other hand, are not short of strikers as of now, but with the imminent departure of Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal, Ancelotti will surely be looking at the option of adding another striker to his squad. Cavani could be the perfect signing for Madrid as his playing style perfectly suits Real’s game-play. If this happens, it’ll be a major blow for Chelsea as well as Manchester City, both of whom have made Cavani as their top priority signing this summer.

Not letting Ronaldo get away to Man Utd

Managing a player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s stature is not a stroll in the park as observed by all of the previous managers at Real Madrid, and Carlo Ancelotti too will face the same mammoth task. His biggest concern at Real Madrid will be to keep hold of the superstar player. Ronaldo has often publicly expressed his wish to join former club Manchester United one day, and this season even United are looking forward to re-signing their ex-player who they sold to Real Madrid for a world record fee of £80 million. It is being said that United’s new boss David Moyes is preparing a massive bid to buy back the Portuguese star. If this happens, it’ll be a big blow to all the other Premier League clubs and a big boost for United in their defence of the Premier League title.

Signing Suarez from Liverpool

In his pursuit of a quality striker due to the imminent departure of Gonzalo Higuain, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has supposedly made a two man shortlist, with Edinson Cavani being his priority target. The other striker on that wishlist is Cavani’s fellow countryman, Luis Suarez. The liverpool star came out openly and expressed his desire to leave the club, stating ill-treatment by the officials in England as his primary reason to leave the Merseyside outfit. With all the additions made by Brendan Rodgers this summer, it seems that Liverpool will be able to cope with the loss of their star player, who was the second highest scorer in the Premier League despite an eight match ban towards the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether the new signings can stamp their authority in the under performing Liverpool side and make them contenders for the Champions League spot.

All in all, Carlo Ancelotti can be assumed to be the most influential manager currently, with his every move in the transfer market affecting not only the clubs involved in the transfer, but also the various other clubs of the English Premier League.
