Arsenal 4-1 Norwich City: Key stats and player ratings

Arsenal v Norwich City - Premier League

Arsenal produced the type of performance that we all know The Gunners are capable of with a superb four-goal rout of Norwich. All four of the North-London club’s goals were classy, effortless finishes. Here are the player ratings based on Sqauwka Performance Score.

Arsenal

Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny (26)

The Polish shot-stopper produced an average display, he could have arguably done better with saving Norwich’s goal but made up for it by producing a fine save from a Leroy Fer shot at the end of the first-half.

Right-Back Bacary Sagna (45)

Solid performance from The Gunners right-back. Tackled well (100% success rate), but could do with working on his crosses – the Frenchman only completed one out of his seven attempted crosses.

Centre-Back: Per Mertesacker (28)

He was the best defender on the pitch today. The German could have done better with clearing the ball that led to the Norwich goal but with a 98% passing accuracy, it’s hard to criticise the 29-year-old.

Per Mertesacker Passes

Centre-Back: Laurent Koscielny (16)

Koscielny didn’t have his best game, but he intercepted well and cleared the ball especially well, but didn’t have any impact from set-pieces.

Left-Back: Kieran Gibbs (22)

The young English left-back played well. He could have done a little better in terms of getting tighter to Johnny Howson for the Norwich goal but other than that, Gibbs tackled well and put in a good shift for his side. He won all five of his tackles, no player for either side won more tackles than him.

Centre-Midfield: Mikel Arteta (34)

Typical captain’s performance from the Spaniard. He bossed the play in the centre of Arsenal’s midfield. His control allowed Aaron Ramsey to play further forward, which led to his fellow-Gunner being named Man of the Match. Arteta made 90 passes, with a 95% pass accuracy.

Attacking Midfield: Mesut Ozil (79)

The German playmaker scored two brilliant goals, and popped up everywhere to receive and pass the ball. He had a pass completion rate of 80% and completed 69 passes.

Ozil Passes

Ozil Passes

Left-Midfield: Jack Wilshere (54)

Usual creative game for the Englishman. He took his goal very well by finishing tidily. He ran all day for his team-mates. Only one criticism would be is that his passing should be better (73% pass accuracy) but apart from that, it was the perfect team performance for the midfielder.

Right-Midfield: Santi Cazorla (12)

Not the best performance from the former-Villarreal playmaker. Perhaps this was expected due to this game being his first game back from the treatment table. He did not create a chance.

Striker: Olivier Giroud (58)

Giroud had a solid game, he managed to get two assists, but he only had four attempts, with just one attempt being on target.

Substitutes:

Aaron Ramsey (115) – Man of the Match

A Man of the Match performance from Aaron Ramsey was one of the main reasons as to why Arsenal strolled to victory today. The Welshman’s passing, take-ons and tackling were all superb but his main contribution came in the form of his goal late-on and his quick pass that started the attack that led to Arsenal’s second goal. Ramsey completed all five of his take-ons.

Tomas Rosicky (23)

The Czech captain didn’t have much of an effect on the game. He passed the ball around well and contributed in a few attacks but didn’t really impress on a personal note. He had a pass success of 94%.

Nicklas Bendtner (13)

Coming on late, the Danish forward wasn’t able to make his own impact on the game. He did however, have an 100% pass accuracy and helped set up Mesut Ozil for Arsenal’s fourth.

Arsenal v Norwich City - Premier League

Norwich City

Goalkeeper: John Ruddy (-2)

Although John Ruddy obtained a ‘minus’ score from us here at Squawka, he did pull off some outstanding saves and comfortably put his poor performance against Chelsea a fortnight ago, behind him.

Right-Back: Russell Martin (-38)

Not Russell Martin’s best performance. He did help in the setting up of a few chances for The Canaries but his pass accuracy wasn’t good (79%) and improvement is needed on Martin’s positioning. Furthermore, he also did not attempt a single tackle.

Centre-Back: Michael Turner (10)

The only Norwich defender to really stand-out and fight for his club, Turner passed the ball well, completing 95% of his passes. His clearances (5) stopped Arsenal preceding with yet more attacks and momentarily relived his side of pressure.

Centre-Back: Sebastien Bassong (-5)

Unlike Turner, Bassong wasn’t very assertive or vocal in-terms of encouraging his team. Although Bassong didn’t have the game of his career, he did make eight crucial clearances that could have led to more Arsenal pressure. He also won both of his aerial duels.

Left-Back: Martin Olsson (-23)

Martin Olsson didn’t play well. His pass accuracy was among the worst of the players on the pitch at a measly 72% and from his four attempted crosses, only one was successful. He did however, win all four of his aerial duels.

Centre-Midfield: Alex Tettey (39)

Tettey was one of the better players on the Norwich side during this game. His pass accuracy stood at 95% and he won two of his three headers. An all-round good performance during a tough game for his side.

Right-Wing: Robert Snodgrass (15)

The Scot’s performance wasn’t the best – although he was creative at times, there was very rarely an end product from either himself or any of Norwich’s attackers. Snodgrass didn’t create a chance all game.

Centre-Midfield: Johnathan Howson (36)

To sum up Howson’s game – he deserved his goal and played well throughout. This is best shown by his action areas graphic which shows how he held up well against some of the most creative players on the planet.

Attacking Midfield: Leroy Fer (12)

Fer had a good game. He passed the ball around the midfield very well, and had a pass accuracy of 89%. He also looked very strong winning all three of his tackles.

Left-Wing: Anthony Pilkington (10)

The Norwich attacker had a decent game, his best chance coming on the hour but he spurned it wide. Defensively, he put a shift in, making four interceptions.

Striker: Gary Hooper (-10)

Gary Hooper had a tough game playing against two very physical centre-defenders who bossed their areas and played well all game. He was also hampered by there being a lack of service from Norwich’s midfield. The striker had just one attempt on goal, it was off target.

Substitutes:

Nathan Redmond (1)

Nathan Redmond didn’t have enough time to make a sufficient impact on the game as he was brought on with around 10 minutes to play.

Wes Hoolahan (12)

Hoolahan was in the same boat as Redmond in terms of not having enough time to make an impact on the game. He did take-on two Arsenal players but wasn’t able to conjure anything for his fellow attackers.
