Wenger was unhappy with the refereeing in his side’s lost to Manchester City

After Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wasn’t impressed with the decisions made by the officials during the match and vented out his feelings after the game. This is the second game in a row that the Gunners have lost despite scoring the first goal of the game just like their defeat at the hands of Everton last week.

The club’s French manager did not shy away from speaking his thoughts about what he believes to be two offside goals for Pep Guardiola’s team, and said, “The two goals are offside, which is very difficult to accept in a game of that stature. Enough is enough for us because we got some bad decisions for the whole season and today I looked at the goals both are offside.”

Referees protected like lions in the zoo, says Wenger

The French manager also referred to the referees as lions in a zoo and that they are protected very well despite their decision making and that team have no other choice but to live with it, “It is well known, the referees are protected very well, what is right, like the lions in the zoo so we have to live with their decisions.”

The 67-year-old manager also stated that he wants the referees to be safe and very well protected but at the same time also make the right decisions.

“I want them (referees) to be very well protected. I want them to be safe. But if they could make the right decisions it would be even better.

“It is too long a subject, I do not want to make referees the subject of the press conference. I just feel it is right they are safe and protected but if they make good decisions then even better,” said the Arsenal manager

Arsenal squander lead with a bad second half performance

The Gunners took the lead in the fifth minute of the game courtesy of a Theo Walcott goal and ended the first half with a lead at the Etihad. But immediately after the start of the second half, Manchester City responded with an equaliser through their summer signing, Leroy Sane.

Although Sane did look marginally offside, the Germany international’s goal stood. After the equalising goal, Arsenal were pushed back in their half and were forced to defend for most the second half as City enjoyed the majority of the possession. Raheem Sterling made matters worse for Wenger and his team after scoring his side’s second goal in the 71st minute, which was enough to seal all three points for Pep Guardiola side.

Apart from the loss, Wenger has another injury concern as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a muscular injury during the game and was taken off in the 78th minute. The Gunners will face West Brom and Crystal Palace at the Emirates in the coming weeks.
