Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has spoken about rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

United had hoped to sign the midfielder this summer to add experience to their midfield ahead of a return to the Champions League, but Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, despite his diminishing role in Pep Guardiola’s side, that Schweinsteiger would not be allowed to leave unless he personally asked to.

A player of his standing at Bayern is unlikely to do so and yesterday following the German national team’s loss to the USA, the 30-year-old pretty much reiterated this.

Speaking to ARD TV, the German captain said:

“I have agreed to discuss my future with Rummenigge during the summer. I still have one year left on my contract. That’s why I am in no rush, even more so because it’s still only early summer.”

Schweinsteiger would have seen United forgo their usual stance of signing players under 28, but with the move seeming unlikely, the policy may remain intact.
