Cesc Fabregas believes Chelsea can still retain the Premier League title

Cesc Fabregas has picked just one assist this season so far

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has urged his teammates to get back on track against Aston Villa this Saturday and has insisted that the club can still retain their Premier League title despite their poor start to the season, according to Sky Sports. The Blues are currently sitting 16th in the league table and are trailing the league leaders Manchester City by ten points.

The 28-year-old has spent the majority of career challenging for silverware, but he has admitted that he is frustrated with this new and unfamiliar experience he’s having with the West London club this season.

Jose Mourinho and his men were on a high last season when they maintained their sizzling form throughout the whole campaign. They were eventually crowned the champions of England and Fabregas was pivotal in the team’s remarkable achievement.

However, this season, they have failed to emulate their form and have picked up just two wins in their opening eight matches in the domestic league. At the same time, they have suffered four huge defeats including one against Southampton before the international break.

The reigning English champions now trail the Citizens by ten points, but the former Arsenal skipper believes they can turn their fortune around and ultimately catch the pace-setters.

"I still believe we can win the league. It's not going to be easy but a 10-point gap at this stage of the season is not impossible.” he said.

"Last season, we took 22 points from our first eight games but this time every team has lost at least one. Manchester City lost to West Ham and Tottenham when no one expected it, Manchester United and Arsenal have also dropped points.”

“No one at Chelsea is happy with our current position but I would prefer to be here now than at the end of the season. It's not how we start the campaign, it's where we finish it. There is still almost 80 percent of the season to go so we have more than enough time to recover.”

“But we need to start that recovery this weekend."

Mourinho is the best manager we can possibly have: Fabregas

The Spain international and his manager have both received a lot of criticisms this season for the team’s lackluster performances in recent games. Fabregas has given his manager the support he requires at this point in time and believes he will fire Chelsea back to winning ways.

"Jose is the best manager in the history of this club and the best manager we can possibly have.” he said.

“There is no one better to turn this around. He always makes the best decisions and I'm sure he will get the best out of us again.”

"I have been in this game for 12 years and played in every cup final it's possible to play in. So I have the experience and the mental strength to cope with this pressure."
