CHELSEA

Ross Turnbull : 5.5Didn’t have to do anything other than a save from Granero as QPR rarely attacked. Couldn’t do anything about their goal.

Ryan Bertrand : 5Stood in for Ashley Cole and showed his usual attacking intent but was nowhere near as effective as Cole. Didn’t control the ball well and couldn’t find his teammates as well.

Branislav Ivanovic : 5Didn’t use his attacking ability to any good measure as he often went for a shot when players were in better positions. Unlucky to score when his header hit the bar. Solid defensively.

Gary Cahill: 6Denied Mackie with a superb tackle to deny an almost certain goal. Was very solid otherwise as QPR didn’t attack with any tenacity.

Cesar Azpilicueta : 4Used his pace to great effect as he raced down the right but failed to deliver a good final ball with his wayward crossing and stray passes.

David Luiz : 5Getting to terms with his midfield role, the Brazilian barely had any room to out maneuver the valiant QPR defence.

Frank Lampard : 6.5Chelsea‘s only shining light. Seemed to be the only player on the pitch with real intent. Found his teammates and controlled the midfield largely. Gave way to Ramires with 10 minutes to go. Chelsea better sign him up real quick.

Oscar : 5.5Made some clever backheels and turns but that was it. Didn’t link up play with an ineffective Torres while Moses and Marin didn’t show the usual attacking desire as Mata and Hazard.

Marko Marin : 4.5Given a rare starting berth, the German didn’t effect proceedings in any real way and was out-muscled off the ball. Gave an indication as to why he isn’t ready for first team action yet. Made a horrible challenge on M’Bia and was lucky to be on the pitch. Replaced on the hour by Hazard.

Victor Moses : 5.5Used his strength and pace to good effect but couldn’t find anyone as he tried cutting in from the wing. Missed a glorious opportunity to score.

Fernando Torres : 4His performance today showed that Demba Ba’s arrival from Newcastle couldn’t happen any sooner. With an inexperienced Marin and Oscar behind him he saw very little of the ball and didn’t do anything with it when he did get it.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Eden Hazard : 5.5Brought on his pace and trickery to the game but by the QPR had completely shut the door on them.

Juan Mata : 5Came on with 15 minutes to go. Showed some good attacking signs but as with Hazard the substitution was too late.

Ramires : N/AReplaced Lampard with 10 minutes to go.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS

Julio Cesar : 7Made some fantastic saves through the match. Denied Torres and Oscar from close up. Maybe got off easy as Chelsea weren’t at their attacking best.

Nedum Onuoha : 6.5Kept Marin quiet throughout the game always coming out as the winner. Had some problems with Hazard but pulled through till the end valiantly. Did his job in unspectacular fashion.

Fabio Da Silva : 6.5Stood valiantly against a powerful Moses. Showed his confidence by attacking the ball and showed great maturity in his defending throughout.

Ryan Nelsen : 7.5The 35-year-old defender made quick and easy work of Torres and seemed to relish the challenge. Also stifled Oscar in his tracks when he moved forward. Worked well with Hill and Cesar to maintain the clean sheet.

Clint Hill : 6.5Was never threatened by Chelsea’s uninspired attack and stood his ground well as Nelsen mopped up Torres. Made a rash challenge on Ivanovic in the closing minutes but thankfully it didn’t amount to anything. Was instrumental in the park-the-bus tactic QPR used.

Shaun Derry : 7Showed a player with raw determination can do against the most potent of attacks (although it really wasn’t one on Chelsea’s case). He stood back and protected his defenders often duelling with Marin and Oscar and usually came out top.

Stephane Mbia : 6Kept the QPR defense stable and moved forward when he got the chance but couldn’t find his teammates due to his erratic passing.

Adel Taarabt : 7.5Often criticized for being too elaborate in his play, he showed great character in moving all over the pitch to pressurize the Chelsea defense. Assisted Wright-Phillips with the flawless pass.

Esteban Granero : 6Continued his string of poor performances but still managed to contribute for the team. Made some clean passes and tracked back well to defend.

Jamie Mackie : 6Showed immense work rate on or off the ball and could have scored if it wasn’t for Cahill’s superb tackle.

Junior Hoilett : N/AWas replaced after 15 minutes due to an injury

SUBSTITUTIONS

Shuan Wright- Phillips : 7Was actually poor for most of the game but his one moment of inspiration allowed him to score. Used his pace to great effect as he helped defend as well.

Kieron Dyer : N/ACame on for Taarabt to play the clock down.

Ji-Sung Park : N/ACame on for Granero in the 90th minute.
