Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has declared that captain John Terry has returned to fitness and will face Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunch time, reports Sky Sports.

The 33-year-old has missed the Blues’ last two Premier League fixtures due to a muscle complaint and will replace David Luiz in the starting line-up as the Brazilian has also picked up a muscle injury, but could yet be fit for the Champions League clash with Galatasaray in midweek.

Terry’s return is a timely boost for Mourinho, whose side have evidently missed the centre-back’s organisation throughout his absence, with the Portuguese admitting they may have come unstuck if he had not recovered in time to play at the weekend.

“‘If, one day, we don’t have David Luiz and John the situation is more difficult. John being ready keeps our balance. The captain’s armband doesn’t mean so much, it’s a voice on pitch. To have a player to transmit what I need is important.

“John has a level of performance that gives stability to the team, especially one with lots of young people,” he insisted.

The former England defender, who is on the verge of signing a contract extension, has been in outstanding form this season and has played a key part in Chelsea’s league best defensive record of 21 goals conceded.

Meanwhile, Mourinho praised the ability of Roberto Martinez’s side but believes his side will emerge with all three points tomorrow.

“If we can beat Everton, it is a good weekend for us if we lose points at home, it’s never good.

“It doesn’t matter what happened in the past. We think we can beat them because we believe in ourselves. Everton are a good team, they defend well and are dangerous on the counter-attack. It’s a team with good balance.

“They are a very good team, playing very well and getting good results. They’re in a position that reflects their quality,” Mourinho declared.

Luiz has won just 14 tackles this term.
