Rumour: Chelsea's Fabregas deal could see Arsenal miss out on bonus payments

Fabregas’s Chelsea deal could be a loss for Arsenal

Arsenal could be set to miss out on receiving additional payments from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas according to the Daily Telegraph, with Chelsea’s current offer ensuring that the clause to receive payments for any profit made on the midfielder inactivated.

Arsenal inserted a clause into the deal that saw Fabregas move to Barcelona three seasons ago that would see them take 50% of any profit Barcelona would make on the future sale of their former captain, with the deal currently standing at £28million, given Barcelona’s failure to win the Champions League during the Spanish international’s time at the club.

Fabregas is reportedly nearing a £27m move to Chelsea and a return to the Premier League now after being made surplus to requirements by new manager Luis Enrique, but with the Blues currently refusing to meet the £30m asking price Barca have slapped on his head, Arsenal would receive no additional payments if the Catalan club decide to accept the current £27m bid on the table.

Chelsea are aware of the clause Arsenal have and their potential benefits in any transfer and with Jose Mourinho viewing the Gunners as a direct rival in the Premier League, he is adamant that he wishes to provide as little ammunition for them as possible.

Mourinho quoted Arsenal a large loan fee when they enquired over the availability of Demba Ba last summer and he is again playing hard-ball with Barcelona in order to ensure that the Gunners receive no benefit from his dealings.
