Rumour: Chelsea plan to send Romelu Lukaku to Atletico Madrid on loan

Romelu Lukaku could be set for another season on loan.

Romelu Lukaku could be set for another spell away from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho plans to send the youngster on loan to Atletico Madrid. Lukaku has already spent the past two seasons on-loan at West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

The Belgian international is supposedly not in Jose Mourinho’s plans for next season and is planning to add Lukaku as a sweetener to the Diego Costa deal. The Chelsea striker is wanted by Roberto Martinez for one more season after he impressed with his time at Everton scoring 15 goals in all competitions.

Tottenham have also been reported to be interested in getting the services of the Belgian number 9.

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea share good business relations with each other as Lukaku’s Belgian teammate Thibault Courtois has spent the last three seasons on loan at Atletico. Courtois and Lukaku share the same agent Christophe Henrotay, and he is reported to have played his hand in this deal. Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has reportedly marked Lukaku as the perfect replacement for Costa as the Spanish international completes his £32 million move to Stamford Bridge.

Earlier, Lukaku had said that he was only concentrating on putting in a good performance at the World Cup and not thinking about Chelsea.

"You know Chelsea: every year they buy a new top striker. I remember me coming into the dressing room last year and seeing Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba and going: 'Whoah! What's happening here?',"

"But no problem. Many clubs are interested in me. At this stage I have to look to myself. I have to play a good World Cup. That's very interesting for all the players looking for a transfer, and I must be one of them. Chelsea know my point of view."
