David Moyes must do what Arsene Wenger did in the summer transfer window

Moyes needs to rebuild Manchester United

Moyes needs to rebuild Manchester United

It is an open secret that Manchester United desperately need to buy players. The Red Devils are going through one of their roughest patches in modern times and currently sit ninth in the Premier League – which is catastrophic by their standards. The midfield is in shambles and the ageing defenders are allowing the opposition to score goals with ridiculous ease. The squad needs a total makeover if they ever want to strike fear in the hearts of other teams again. Nobody should blame David Moyes for the player issues. Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson left his successor with a less than perfect squad who won the Premier League not by their brilliance but because of their strike force.

Moyes has proved that he is extremely shrewd when it comes to buying players so his ability in the transfer market should not be questioned. The Scot’s lack of success in the recent transfer window was due to him taking over the club late and not due to incompetence. Sir Alex Ferguson himself knew that the midfield was a place that needed strengthening which is why he bought Shinji Kagawa, Wilfried Zaha and long term prospect Nick Powell and was eyeing a few others including Marouane Fellani who was bought by Moyes on deadline day.

Panic buying in January is simply not an option and Moyes is doing the right thing by stating that he will get players in January only if they can genuinely help lift the club. David Moyes needs to mimic Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal manager finally woke up from his slumber and bought the services of German midfielder Mesut Ozil, who has almost single-handedly turned around the fortunes of the London club. Moyes should also bring in about two world class talents to make Manchester United the force they once were.

Luke Shaw should be bought by Moyes instead of Leighton Baines. Baines in one of the best left-backs in the world right now but is currently 29 and will soon be in the twilight of his career. Shaw is still in his late teens and clearly has what it takes to play at the highest level. Moyes has an excellent track record of developing young players much like Sir Alex and is already reaping the benefits of Januzaj, Shaw would flourish at Manchester United under Moyes. Julian Draxler and Koke are also on Moyes’s radar, both are top talents and will fit in well with the Red Devils.

Manchester United do need some world class players if they are ever to win big competitions like the Champions League and it cannot be done with players like Ashley Young and Anderson on the books. The World Cup is approaching soon and Moyes needs to finish scouting and finalize his targets soon. Sir Alex scouted Javier Hernandez before the 2010 World Cup and got him for a bargain price. Moyes will definitely consider splashing the cash and it remains to see who will arrive at Old Trafford and make it the Theater of Dreams once more.
