Speaking to La Sexta, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea admitted that he is attempting to convince Barcelona playmaker Cesc Fabregas to join the Red Devils.

"He [Fabregas] is a top player, there are many clubs who want him and are in Barcelona, the club of his life,” De Gea told La Sexta. "I've tried to convince Cesc to join United but it's difficult.”

“He feels great at Barca, it's his home," he added.

Fabregas was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the last summer window, however, the move didn’t go through as then Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was adamant about selling the 27-year-old.

When asked about his excitement ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he said, “I’m raring to make my debut. There's a lot of competition in goal, but I'm enjoying myself and pushing myself to the max in training.”

"There's a lot of speculation about who will go to Brazil and who won't. A few players are carrying fitness issues and we just have to wait for the gaffer to make his decision: it's as simple as that," he added.

Barcelona’s new manager Luis Enrique had recently declined to comment over Fabregas’s future at the Catalan club.

"Cesc? We are not getting into all the individual names now," he told reporters. "We do not have to make decisions now, we have time.”
