Draxler? Costa? Wenger hints at deadline day Arsenal signings

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he may be forced into a late foray into the transfer market, as he feels his Arsenal squad is too thin currently to cope with the demands of the run-in to the Premier League season. The club have been linked with the likes Julian Draxler and Diego Costa in recent months.

The Gunners still sit on top of the table, but have played a game more than Manchester City and Chelsea, and Wenger feels he needs to add to the options he already possesses if Arsenal are to remain in that position at the end of the season.

With Theo Walcott ruled out for the remainder of the season already, Arsenal lost Santi Cazorla to injury in the 2-2 draw with Southampton on Tuesday night, while Mathieu Flamini will now face a three match ban after receiving a straight red.

Arsenal have also suffered another setback in that Aaron Ramsey has aggravated his groin injury in training and faces a further spell on the sidelines, prompting Wenger to act in the transfer market before Friday’s deadline.

The Arsenal manager told Sky Sports, “I have nothing to tell you tonight, maybe I hope we have something to tell you because we have lost a few players now.

“We have lost Flamini for three games and Ramsey, but overall I think Jack Wilshere will be back soon, so I think we will be OK.

“Ramsey has had a set-back in training yesterday (Monday), but we hope it’s not for too long.

“He will certainly not be available for Sunday’s game (home to Crystal Palace). I have to think about ins and outs.”
