After giving trials in Scotland and England last year, East Bengal and India midfield general Mehtab Hossain is set for trials in the first and second tier of Spanish football this summer, his new agent Ravi Daswani confirmed to Sportskeeda on Wednesday.

Daswani is a Spanish-born agent of Indian origin who lives in Singapore and saw Mehtab in action during East Bengal’s AFC Cup match against S-League champions Tampines Rovers. Daswani, who is also a lawyer by profession, was highly impressed by the Indian medio and signed him up for two years while in Malaysia when Mehtab was with the East Bengal team for their AFC Cup clash against Selangor FA.

“I have already approached some clubs in Spain both in the first and second division. I cannot confirm any names but most of the clubs have Mehtab’s CV now and once this season ends, say in three to four weeks we will know which teams want to have him for trials. Mostly in July or August he will go to Spain for trials and if he impresses he will get a chance to sign a professional contract in Spain and I will arrange everything for him and his family to settle there,” Daswani told Sportskeeda.

Mehtab has a contract with East Bengal but Daswani revealed that no transfer fee will be necessary if he gets a chance to move abroad.

“Mehtab has already spoken to his current club East Bengal. No transfer fee will be needed if there is a transfer to Europe,” he stated.

India captain Sunil Chhetri endured a frustrating time at the ‘B’ team of Sporting Lisbon as he wasn’t getting much game time but Daswani is confident of Mehtab becoming a regular as he believes his style of play suits Spanish football.

“Mehtab’s style of play is suitable for Europe and especially Spanish football. His qualities as a midfielder will be ideal for Spanish football. Of course it would be difficult but teams are studying his profile carefully and if he does well in the trials then there is a great chance of him playing in Spain,” Daswani opined.

Daswani further added that even if Mehtab is unable to get a permanent deal in Spain, efforts will be made to get him a contract elsewhere but that solely depends on the player himself.

“It depends on him and what he wants for his future whether he wants to play in the I-League or if he wants to play somewhere else in Asia. I will have to speak to him about it,” Daswani added.

Besides getting him trials and a club abroad, Daswani and his organisation ‘RD Global Sports’ will also be working to get the India international commercial endorsements.
