Eden Hazard: Good for Chelsea that Steven Gerrard is injured for Liverpool

Sky Sports recently brought attention to comments made by Eden Hazard in an interview with the clubs official TV channel. The Belgian star – who is the current top goalscorer for the Blues in the Premier League – revealed how heartening it is for Chelsea to go into this game knowing they won’t be encountering two of the Reds’ key players: captain, Steven Gerrard and striker, Daniel Sturridge.

“A big match, another big match,” Hazard told Chelsea TV.

“They play very well. They have the best scorer with Suarez. “[Steven] Gerrard is injured, and [Daniel] Sturridge. Good for us.

“But they’re a very, very strong team and it will be difficult.”

Up until injuring his hamstring in Liverpool’s game with West Ham, Gerrard topped the Premier League ranking lists in terms of chances created, while Sturridge was on course to challenge for the golden boot before he was sidelined with an ankle injury.

However, despite having missed the last six PL games, only three players – Loic Remy, Sergio Aguero and teammate Luis Suarez – have bettered the England striker’s nine goals.

Meanwhile, Petr Cech has the opportunity to claim his own record in the match against Liverpool, as he finds himself with just one clean sheet away from Peter Bonetti’s all-time Chelsea best of 208.

“It is a great milestone for a goalkeeper.

“It would obviously be fantastic to get that in the Liverpool game.”
