Edinson Cavani's £53m buyout clause at Napoli expires on 10th August

Will Cavani leave Napoli for less than the £53m buy out clause?

Edinson Cavani is one of the players who has been in hot demand in this transfer window. Big clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid have lined up to receive his signature on the transfer papers. The Napoli striker has a £53m buy out clause at the Serie A club, but Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentis has confirmed that the release clause will expire on August 10. The £53m tag has put Manchester City out of the race for Cavani as Laurentis claimed that the Premier League club did not have enough money.

“Manchester City do not have money to pay for Cavani, because they say, ‘We won’t pay that [£53m],’” he said in a press conference.

The Pre-season transfer window will end on the 31st of August in Italy, Spain and England, thus the other clubs do have a chance of getting Cavani at a lower price. Though Laurentis said that he is confident that Cavani would not take that long to make a decision and they will know about his future plans on the 20th July.

“I don’t think Cavani will leave on August 10th, when his buyout clause expires. I’m confident in him, because I consider him a real man. He won’t make a joke of me,” said De Laurentiis.

‘Should Cavani want to leave, he will decide it after a long period of reflection. But by July 20th we will probably know everything about his future.”

Cavani is currently on international duty for Uruguay at the Confederations Cup in Brazil. The Uruguayan international has not confirmed the club that he will play at come next season. He though admitted that he was flattered to know about the other clubs interest in him.
