Fans and Sports Banners: Priceless Artwork

Fans are the lifeline of any sport. PERIOD!

Owners, players and even the rules of the game may change, but the fans always remain. Their cheering, lung-busting screams and emotional tears are what all athletes in any sport play the game for. Before they even think about something known as the MOOLAH, it’s the mass appeal that draws them to the game in most cases.

To get people more involved in the game, we see the media producers and camera men point their cameras towards the fans to capture every emotion, every reaction. Without them, the game loses its appeal and becomes bland, losing its ‘taste’. Pretty damsels are a sure favourite for any man behind the camera lenses. It’s an easy way to get yourself some some attention (see Pamela Anderson). For the other, less fortunate people, sports banners are a huge way to get yourself some attention, your three seconds of fame.

Banners have always been one of the things I have kept a keen eye on. Some express the creator’s opinion, while others are meant to be just silly. Some are really funny, some so utterly dumb that they cause your eyes to stare at them, leaving you r mind boggled. In whatever way, it just works! Here are some of my favorites over the years:

Just wanna piss somebody off? Mission Accomplished. It doesn’t mater what age you are!

Hopefully these couples still have a little love left for each other. It’s not advisable to dig your own grave but sometimes the heart of a fan sings a different tune altogether.

Then there are those who truely know what they want.

Aah! A boys night out and sports. Calls for some celebrations.

All these pictures are more than just silly bonkers. These are raw emotions. It’s what the sporting world survives upon. We analyze and delegate too much over too many things. The inner fan just wants the see the action and to react accordingly. I still remember my father jumping on top of his seat at Eden Gardens at the fall of an Adam Gilchrist wicket. Sports really do bring out all kinds of feelings in people. When something happens on the field, grown men behave like little kids jumping with joy like on the morning of Christmas. They sob and cry like an adolescent child who wasn’t given his desired toffee. This is why we love sports, even if sometimes we just just hate it. The pain that it can cause can’t be explained until one feels it on his/her own.

So what do you do when it’s not been your day, your month or maybe your year:

The terrible New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) made their fans endure three horrible seasons!

When you just couldn’t give away the tickets!

Fans in Minnesota certainly didn’t like how Kevin McHale was running the Timberwolves. They ultimately lost Kevin Garnett

Got a player you wanna pick on?

Legendary quarter-back Brett Favre got involved in a text scandal when the website Deadspin reported that he had sent inappropriate messages to TV personality Jane Sturger. The fans took to him in the funny way, while also rubbing it in.

Minnesota Vikings’ own fans saw the lighter side of it

Then there are those that went totally wrong!

Michael Vick another great quarter back was surely back as an Eagle. The poets were out in full force it seems to welcome him back.

The Toronto Blue Jays must be big in those parts. I just wanted to say “Really?”

The players strike back!!

The guys who transform the colours of their skin in the name of passion. A banner themselves.

An Indian supporter painted his body in tri-colour.

The lad regularly transforms himself to the colours of his beloved Newcastle.

The banners are a fun way to portray your intense love, your fervor, and your way of saying YOU CARE.

It’s fun guys. Keep them coming. We are watching.
