Fantasy Premier League tips: Goalkeepers and Defenders to pick for Gameweek 7

Jordan Pickford

We all know the famous quote, "Offence wins games but Defenses wins championships", same goes for our Fantasy teams where a clean sheet can be make or break for our weekend. Well here are some defensive options for your FPL team in Gameweek 7:

Jordan Pickford (£5.0m, Everton)

Everton's tough run of fixtures is finally over and now it is safe to pick their players for your fantasy squads. One player who stands out in this squad is Jordan Pickford, he may not have the clean sheets to show for right now but he is a quality talent and has managed to score save points in each game this season.

This weekend, he faces a Burnley attack which has only 4 shots target in away matches and average just 1 goal per match. The Toffees' next 3 out 5 opponents have a score of 2 in FDR, so make sure you take advantage of Everton's kind run of fixtures and start Pickford this week.

Fraser Forster (£5.0m, Southampton)

Crystal Palace v Southampton - Premier League
Fraser Forster

Southampton's kind run of fixtures continue after a tough tie against Man United. Saints shot stopper Forster has been taking advantage of these matchups with 3 clean sheets in 6 matches.

His opponents this week are Stoke City. The Potters currently average just 3.7 shots on target in home games and against a well-oiled defensive unit like that of the Saints, they may find it even tougher to test the keeper, let alone score.

Southampton's next 5 fixtures score 2 in the FDR, so Forster might be a regular source of clean sheet points in your FPL team.

Heurelho Gomes (£4.5m, Watford)

The Hornets have been on a roll lately winning 3 of their 6 games this season and are currently 6th in the Premier League. Gomes has benefited hugely from this run as he's managed 3 shutouts in 6 games.

This week, he faces a West Brom side which averages less than a goal a match this season and averages just 2.7 shots on goal in away matches. So expect Watford to impress against the Baggies and expect Gomes to collect a clean sheet against a sub-par West Brom offence.

Phil Jones (£5.2m, Manchester United)

Southampton v Manchester United - Premier League
Phil Jones

Right now, he is the cheapest pick from the Manchester United defence, which has been in terrific form since the start of the season. Jones has been the backbone of this brick wall defence which has amassed 5 clean sheets in 6 matches this campaign.

He faces a Crystal Palace team who have failed to score in their last 6 games, making a new record in the process. Expect him to keep a clean sheet and at £5.2, he's is a bargain.

Cedric Soares (£5.0m, Southampton)

Southampton v Manchester United - Premier League
Cedric Soares

Southampton can boast having the easiest set of fixtures for the next 5 gameweeks, where the opposing teams score just 2 on the FDR. Cedric Soares, EURO 2016 Champion, has been a mainstay in this Saints defence collecting 3 clean sheets in 6 games.

This week we will see if he "can do it on a cold and rainy night in stoke", Stoke have averaged just 3.7 shots on target, so we expect a smooth ride this week for Cedric.

Cuco Martina (£4.3m, Everton)

The defensive duo of Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka are nursing injuries and are expected to miss at least the next 2 games. Cuco Martina -- who has already been a part of the starting XI for some time -- can cement his place in the squad in the absence of these two.

This week, he faces a Burnley team who have just 4 shots on target per game in away matches and are averaging less than a goal this season.

Cuco Martina has a great opportunity to make a name for himself, his talent suggests he will grab it with both hands.

Kiko Femenia (£4.5m, Watford)

Watford's new acquisition from Spain has set the FPL world on fire. He's been an important part of this Hornets side which is currently sitting 6th in the league table. The biggest merit of his game has been his ability to pick up Bonus Points alongside 3 clean sheets; he has already accumulated 6 BP in 6 games.

This week, he faces the Baggies who average less than a goal and record just 2.7 shots on goal away from home, so a smooth weekend is on the cards for Kiko.
