Ahead of the tournament, it was reported that Spain were ordered to make new home kits for the World Cup after FIFA decided that the colour didn't offer a contrast when compared with the Dutch kit.
Meanwhile, Spain's kit supplier Adidas were ordered to supply a third kit - an all white - as a backup for the opening game against Netherlands.
As Adidas couldn't come up with the new kit as per the directives from FIFA, Spain were left with no option but the sport their third kit for the game.
Netherlands on the other hand, were always supposed to wear their away kit for their opening game of the campaign.
