Five deadly strike partnerships in the Premier League

Manchester United v Liverpool - Premier League

Strike partnerships have always been crucial in the premiere league ever since its inception. Most of the time we only praise the player who scores the goals, but we may forget about the one who provides support that a scorer needs. Here’s a look at some of the best partnerships in the past decade of the BPL.

1) Rooney and Ronaldo - This was arguably one of the most controversial and successful pairings that graced the Premier League in the past decade. However, controversy caught up with them when the English fans accused Ronaldo of influencing the referee to send off Rooney in the 2006 World Cup. From crisis to success, after that incident the duo never looked back. Ronaldo went on to become the “world’s best player “ as many would say, and the two combined to win Manchester United a couple of league titles and a Champions League.

2) Lampard and Drogba - The two Chelsea legends changed the landscape of the Premier League under Jose Mourinho. With superb assists from Lampard, Drogba made it a habit of scoring goals for fun, resulting in Chelsea’s rise to a Champions League contender. This deadly duo was behind every success Chelsea enjoyed during the past years, which included the Premier League title, League Cups, FA Cup and recently the Champions League.

3) Torres and Gerrard - One of the main reasons why this duo didn’t hit the jackpot was because of the injuries that both the players suffered every now and then. But when they were fit to play together, they worked hand in glove for Liverpool. If Torres earned his name in English football before his move to Chelsea, it’s because of Steven Gerrard . Both of them were on their best form when they were playing together and maybe if Torres had stayed a little longer, who knows where Liverpool might have been by now.

4) Silva and Aguero - Probably two of the best signings made by the cash rich Manchester City. Though Silva has been out of form lately, in the early days of this combination, it was too hot for the other clubs to handle, and it’s clear as the sky that these two played big roles in pushing City to a title win.

5) Sigurdson and Danny Graham - Including these two not much celebrated names along with the “world famous” may raise some eyebrows. But after the successful season that Swansea had under Brendan Rodgers, it would be unfair not to include them.
