Frank Lampard believes Jose Mourinho will turn Chelsea's season around

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has given his support to his former manager Jose Mourinho following their dismal start to the season, the Guardian reported. Mourinho and his men have endured a difficult start to their title-defending campaign and Lampard believes the Portuguese can help the club dig themselves out of trouble.

The 37-year-old was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his contributions to the sport from the Duke of Cambridge on Tuesday. Lampard earned his recognition for a career in English football that lasted for over 15 years with the West London outfit, where he was instrumental throughout the most successful spell in his former club’s history.

During his time with the Blues, Lampard won 13 major trophies and made 106 appearances for the English national side. Lampard was often regarded as the country’s most dangerous attacking midfielder and deservedly so. With his goals from midfield, he still holds Chelsea’s all-time scoring record with a total of 211 goals.

The former Chelsea midfielder played under the Portuguese tactician in both his spells as club’s head coach and had a glorious time with the English champions before he agreed to join New York City FC in Major League Soccer last season. However, the ex-England international was on a season-loan spell with Manchester City last term, but he is now back with the New York-based club.

Lampard’s former club are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table this season, despite winning the league title sensationally with a 7-point lead over City last term. The slump in their performances has been largely blamed on Mourinho, who has been under the spotlight right from the start of the campaign.

However, the Chelsea legend has insisted that Mourinho is the right man to turn the club’s fortunes around with the current crop of players he has got at his disposal.

“It's a hot topic because you don't expect Chelsea to lose games like they've been losing recently,” the New York City FC midfielder said.

“These periods do happen, I've been involved in them before and the thing that matters is coming out of them the other side.”

“With Jose Mourinho in charge, the squad they've got, the talent they've got on the pitch and the club that Chelsea is now - I don't see any way that they won't turn it around.”

Lampard’s contribution to the Blues and British football has not gone unnoticed as he was honoured by the Duke of Cambridge for his remarkable achievement during his time in England.

“As personal achievement goes, this ranks up there with my achievements on the pitch and what I won with Chelsea, and playing for my country,” he said.

“But to receive an award like this among some very special people here, military, people who are doing a lot of good work in charity, it's very humbling to be here.”
