Rumour: Guus Hiddink and Fabio Capello out of the race for Tottenham Hotspur hotseat

Guus Hiddink is unlikely to take the Tottenham Hotspur job if the Dutchman’s agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen is to be believed.

The North London club are looking to appoint a new manager following the dismissal of Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas after Spurs suffered an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday at White Hart Lane which leaves them 8 points off the top of the Barclays Premier League table and five behind 4th placed Manchester City.

Hiddink, who has prior experience managing a team in the Premier League, is widely believed to have agreed in principle to take over the Netherlands job as Louis van Gaal’s successor after this summer’s World Cup.

“I would be surprised if Hiddink goes to Tottenham,” Cees van Nieuwenhuizen told Voetbal Primeur. “I can hardly imagine that happening. Guus has just signed a deal with the KNVB (Dutch FA) and he has also recently turned down other offers from other countries to be active at the World Cup in Brazil. So the rumours surrounding Guus and Tottenham shouldn’t be taken seriously.”

Fabio Capello was another one of the early favourites to take over the managerial duties at Tottenham Hotspur. The 67-year-old Italian, who is the current coach of the Russian national team after having taken the job in July 2012, was widely tipped to be the next Spurs boss after he was pictured at White Hart Lane on Sunday albeit he was there only as a TV pundit.

However, Capello too seems unlikely to be given the job despite his previous association with Franco Baldini, the current Technical Director at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham, who are now 7th in the standings, have announced that Tim Sherwood, Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand will take temporary charge of the first team.
