International friendly: Ricky Lambert saves England the blushes against Scotland

England v Scotland - International Friendly

Rickie Lambert of England (C) celebrates with team-mates after scoring a goal in an International Friendly match against Scotland

England defeated Scotland 3-2 in an international friendly courtesy goals from Theo Walcott, Danny Welback and debutant Rickie Lambert. For Scotland, who put up a tough fight, James Morrison and Kenny Miller were on the score sheet.

Rickie Lambert came on as a substitute and immediately scored to give England a much deserved win. The Southampton striker banged home a 70th-minute header from Leighton Baines’ corner to put England in front for the first and only time in the match at Wembley.

Despite winning, England conceded the lead twice in an entertaining match on Wednesday evening at Wembley against their oldest enemy. In the 11th minute, Hart produced a howler when failing to stop James Morrison’s dipping shot, which lead to the opening goal.

Theo Walcott equalised for England in 29th minute but, in the second half, Kenny Miller made a mockery of Cahill when he left the defender flat-footed with a clever turn inside the box before finishing past Hart. Eventually, goals from Danny Welbeck and Lambert were enough to hand the hosts a hard-fought victory.
