Ishfaq Ahmed banned for four matches

Former Salgaocar Sports Club midfielder, Ishfaq Ahmed got a four match ban for his misconduct in the match against Neftchi FC in Uzbekistan on May 8.

Ishfaq was sent off from the field for his misbehavior and verbal abuse to the Yemen referee, who after the match, reported the offence to the match commissioner and also to the disciplinary committee.

The disciplinary committee of the Asian Football Federation (AFC) , which met in Kuala Lumpur on July 5, decided to take strict action against the midfielder and imposed a four match ban on Ishfaq.

Meanwhile, Ishfaq has signed a new contract with the Kolkata giants, East Bengal for the upcoming season. According to the AFC disciplinary committee, Ishfaq has been charged for “offensive behaviour and violation of fair play”. AFC officials said in a statement, “Pursuant to Article 49 of the AFC Disciplinary Code, Ahmed is suspended for four matches for violation of Article 69 of the AFC Cup Regulations 2012 and Article 57 of the Code.”

Ishfaq has also been warned about his mis-leading behaviour and repeatation of such offence will lead him to more severe punishment.
