Sony Norde, a name which sent chills down the spines of defenders in the recently concluded I-League season, was snapped up by Mumbai City FC to play in the second season of the India Super League. Norde impressed as his nine goals and thirteen assists helped Mohun Bagan end a 13-year wait to become the Champions of India.

Norde created havoc up on Mohun Bagan’s left side as his ability to twist and turn gave the Mariners a real cutting edge upfront. By far one of the best players in last season’s I-League Norde caught the attention of Mumbai City FC who added him to their already healthy attacking line-up.

Hailing from the Caribbean island of Haiti, Norde has seen the ISL slowly getting recognition back home and feels his countrymen will be right behind him as he prepares to play for Mumbai City FC. “The ISL is slowly becoming popular in Haiti. It is not a surprise when so many superstars are playing in the league. Now that I am playing the ISL will be followed quite a lot in Haiti,” said the Mumbai City FC winger.

The Haiti International also confirmed that with him wearing the Blue strip of Mumbai City FC, the whole of Haiti will be rooting for the Mumbaikars in the Season two of the ISL, “I get a lot of love from my country and I’m hundred per cent sure that the whole of Haiti will be supporting Mumbai City FC in the ISL this season,” said the Mohun Bagan midfielder.

Norde felt that playing in the ISL has helped his dream come true of playing with the likes of Nicolas Anelka and hailed his coach as well as Sunil Chhetri who is also part of Mumbai’s team. “Playing with Nicolas Anelka is a dream come true for me. He is one of the best players in the world I will get to learn a lot from him.

Also playing with the likes of Sunil is a great experience for me. He is a team man and knows my game. I am looking forward to striking a good combination with him. I feel his presence will make my job easier,” added Norde looking forward to the opening game against FC Pune City.

The ISL is slightly at a higher level compared to the I-League and Norde will have to make that step up quickly for his team. If Norde can replicate his I-League performance in the ISL, then Mumbai City FC will go very close to the ISL crown.
