Report: Sukhvinder Singh to be appointed as new CEO of FC Goa

Sukhvinder Singh has been reported to be appointed as the new CEO of Indian Super League outfit FC Goa, according to Times of India. The former Indian FA marketing head has been roped in by the Konkan franchise of the ISL after going through two rounds of interviews.

Sukhi, as he is affectionately known, is reportedly ready to step down from his Managing Director’s post at Libero Sport’s India division in the next couple of days. As part of India’s official delegation to Soccerex, he is currently in Manchester but is expected to arrive in India on Monday.

There were a number of top positions left vacant in the FC Goa management team and they had invited candidates to apply. The candidates were called for interviews which were held in two rounds. The FC Goa management shortlisted four deserved candidates that included one from Goa and two senior officials from existing I-League clubs.

Sukhvinder Singh has found favour with the FC Goa management and is believed to be appointed as the new CEO of the ISL franchise later this month.

FC Goa co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar had said in a previous interview with TOI: “We had advertised for the CEO post and the response has been very good. I am happy that a lot of young and talented people have applied.

“We have shortlisted a few but it's been a difficult choice to make. One of the top I-League club’s official was also in the reckoning but he didn’t wish to shift to Goa for the job.”

ISL has to become a longer league, insists Singh

The second edition of ISL is set to kick off on October 3 and the competition is set to excite football fans all over India once again. The competition, so far, has only eight participants and Sukhvinder suggests that the league has to expand and become a longer one for it to be sustainable.

“For ISL to be sustainable and successful, it will have to convert itself into a longer league with the franchise owners making adequate investment in football development projects at community level,” he told Goal last year.

Singh is expected to hand in his resignation from Libero Sports when he arrives in Delhi on Sunday. He previously worked as a sports marketing professional for Nike and also as the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) marketing officer.

He had also applied for the position of AIFF’s general secretary and Project Director for the Under-17 World Cup.
