Jack Wilshere wants England to play dirty

Arsenal teammates Ozil and Wilshere will not go head-to-head in Tuesday night’s clash

After being totally outclassed by Chile in their first of two friendlies at Wembley on Friday night, Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere has stated that England need to employ a few dirty tricks of their own.

Speaking ahead of the match against Germany on Tuesday night, Wilshere admitted that Chile were the better side and fully deserved the win. However, he also felt that his team could pick up a few things from the Chileans on how to frustrate opponents and win at all costs.

He said: “South American teams like to make little fouls and break the game up, which is frustrating. But we could learn a bit from them sometimes,” said Wilshere .

“Maybe if we could pick that up from their character, a little foul here and there like they did doesn’t hurt. Once they do little fouls, it slows play down and you have to stop, and build up all over again, and it makes it difficult.”

Wilshere also said that the team has gained enough experience about how to face opponents going into next year’s World Cup, but took a cautious approach when it came to their next opponents Germany. He made it clear that England did not want to lose back-to-back games at Wembley.

“We don’t want to lose two on the bounce at Wembley. We’ll recover from Chile, we’ll get ready, we’ll watch it again and learn from it. It was a tough game.”

“The last time I played a team like that was Barcelona, the way they keep the ball, play out from the back and when they don’t have the ball they press high and make it difficult for you.”

“We didn’t play badly. In the first half we could have had two or three goals and they could have had two or three so it was a really open game and we can take some positives from it.”

“I think it was very good for us. They were a different style to a lot of teams we’ve played in the past and we’ll have to deal with both at the World Cup. At least we now know what to expect.”

The prospect of seeing Arsenal colleagues Wilshere and Ozil go head-to-head however will not come to fruition as Joachim Löew has already confirmed Özil’s absence.

“He’s one of a few for Germany. You’ve got Marco Reus as well – a great midfielder. It’s going to be a tough night for us but we’ll be ready.

“Ozil’s such a smart player, even in training. Sometimes you think you’ve got him and then he’s gone! He’s a top, top player and he’s been like that for years.” Wilshere said on Özil.
