Kolo Toure: We love Luis Suarez

Liverpool centre-back Kolo Toure insists that the Liverpool squad have had no issues welcoming Luis Suarez back into the team.

Suarez was told to train alone after he publicly stated his desire to leave Liverpool and told the media that the Merseyside club had failed to honour an agreement that he would be allowed to leave if a Champions League club bid £40 million for him.

Arsenal were thought to have activated this clause with a bid of £40 million + £1, but Liverpool rebuffed all advances and denied the existence of any such clause.

Liverpool’s stance seems to have paid off as Luis Suarez has rejoined first team training, although he won’t be able to play in the Premier League for a while as he continues to serve a ban for biting Chelsea‘s Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season.

Kolo Toure told Sky Sports that Suarez has not estranged his teammates with his conduct.

He said: “I think Suarez was defending himself and the club were defending what they wanted as well, because he is one of the best strikers in the world.

“For us, it is really important to keep him. What the club did, for me, is right, because we want to keep him.

“You would never want one of your best players going to another team. We want him to stay because this is a big club.

“It is nothing for us. We know football, it is big business. For a player like Suarez there is no problem, we love him. He can do anything!

“He just resolved the problem with the manager and we want him to score our goals, that is what we are looking for.

“The manager sorted it out with him. He (Brendan Rodgers) was very clever, and Steven Gerrard as well. They worked on him (Suarez) and we are happy he is back training with us again. That is great.”
