Liverpool 4-0 Everton: Player Ratings

liverpool
Liverpool continued their fine run of form

The Merseyside Derby saw Liverpool run out emphatic winners at Anfield as they routed Everton 4-0 on the evening. Divock Origi started the scoring before Mamadou Sakho doubled the Reds’ lead. Daniel Sturridge came off the bench to score the third and Philippe Coutinho completed the rout with a magnificent fourth.

The Derby was played at great pace and with great desire but was marred by a horror tackle from Ramiro Funes Mori on Divock Origi which saw the latter leave the pitch on a stretcher. As a result of the rather headless tackle, Everton ended the game with 10 men with Funes Mori getting sent off.

Let’s have a look at the player ratings.

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet – 6/10

Simon Mignolet barely had anything to do all game. He may not have touched the ball in the last thirty odd minutes.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6/10

Nathaniel Clyne was settled well into the game after initial hiccups which saw Kevin Mirallas turn him inside out. All in all, he had a decent evening.

Dejan Lovren – 7/10

Dejan Lovren was solid on the night after initially getting dominated by Mirallas. He didn’t need to deal with much in the second half.

Mamadou Sakho – 8/10

Mamadou Sakho made some very important tackles and interceptions in the first half and made a few more as the game progressed. He put in a solid shift with Dejan Lovren to keep Everton out completely.

Alberto Moreno – 8/10

Alberto Moreno was excellent going forward and decent defensively. He put in a fantastic tackle in the first half in the box to prevent Everton from creating a chance.

Lucas Leiva - 9/10

Lucas was fantastic on the night. Coming back in from a long layoff, he still needs to physically come up to speed. Although he was superb with the tackles and screening the defense. He even assisted for the third goal.

Lucas was magnificent on the night

James Milner - 9/10

James Milner is beginning to look the part under Jurgen Klopp as he notched up two more assists on the night. His defensive play is excellent and on the attack he was impeccable on the night.

Philippe Coutinho – 8/10

Philippe Coutinho is developing some excellent end of season form as he troubled the Everton midfield all game. His link up play was simply sublime and he scored a fantastic goal to round off the scoring on the night.

Adam Lallana – 7/10

Adam Lallana created quite a few chances on the evening. He even had a few which he could’ve put away. However, he was foiled by the keeper initially and Everton defenders afterwards. Also, he could’ve been tidier in the final third.

Roberto Firmino – 6/10

Roberto Firmino continues to struggle physically after returning from the injury layoff. He seemed quite out of sorts.

Divock Origi – 8/10

Divock Origi started the game looking off the pace and possibly fazed by the occasion but recovered as the game progressed and started the scoring with a well taken goal. He kept threatening till Funes Mori decided to come up with a very poor tackle.

Substitutes

Daniel Sturridge– 7/10

Daniel Sturridge scored and kept linking up play immensely well. He looked sharp, focused and determined to leave an impact. Jurgen Klopp has a motivated player on his hands.

Joe Allen - 7/10

Joe Allen was incredible after having come on. He offered energy and quality that was oft missing in the middle of the park for Liverpool as he recycled the ball continually and darted forward till the very last minute of the game.

Jordon Ibe – N/A

Joel limited the damage for Everton

Joel Robles – 7/10

Joel Robles let in 4 goals but essentially kept it down to that. He kept Everton in the game initially after two fantastic one on one saves. He limited the damage when the game crept away from them.

Bryan Oviedo – 5/10

He did reasonably well for an emergency right back but was left chasing his tail by a sublime Philippe Coutinho on the night.

John Stones – 5/10

John Stones looks nowhere near his best at the moment. He was left for dead on a number of occasions and eventually left the field injured.

Ramiro Funes Mori – 3/10

It wasn’t like Funes Mori was having the best game, a horror tackle borne out of frustration completely killed Everton’s chances of fighting back.

Leighton Baines – 6/10

Leighton Baines did well to silence Lallana and Firmino on occasions but was left quite lost by James Milner when he drifted wide. Jordon Ibe came on in the end to take advantage of his tired legs.

Gareth Barry – 6/10

Gareth Barry seemed to be the one player who may have made a difference in the Derby with the Englishman occasionally threatening the Liverpool team with some excellent passing and vision. He eventually fizzled out and had to be substituted off early in the second half.

James McCarthy – 6/10

James McCarthy had to play as a midfielder and later as a defender. He began brightly but eventually lost out.

Ross Barkley– 5/10

After an initial burst of quality and an impressive few breaks on the counter attack, Barkley was invisible on the night. He was substituted in the second half.

Kevin Mirallas – 6/10

Kevin Mirallas started the game on fire. His swift link up play and excellent bursts of speed on the counter caused Liverpool a problem or two but he eventually fizzled out like most of his teammates.

Aaron Lennon – 5/10

There wasn’t much that Aaron Lennon offered offensively but you could argue that he had to spend most of the game trying to defend. He looked very out of sorts in the game as well.

Romelu Lukaku– 6/10

Devoid of any service, the Belgian barely had anything to do in the second half after threatening on some occasions in the first.

Substitutes

Muhammed Besic – 4/10

Muhammed Besic basically came into a game that was not going to let him do anything of note. He ended up playing at center back after the sending off and John Stones’ injury.

Tom Cleverley – 4/10

It was hard to notice that Tom Cleverley was even on the pitch for the majority of time after he came on.

Steven Pienaar – 4/10

Steven Pienaar did not do much as Liverpool dominated the ball.
