What's the story?

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has spoken up about the club's former shot-stopper Loris Karius and the mistakes that he made in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last May.

In case you didn't know...

Last year, LaLiga giants Real Madrid achieved a dominating win over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool to win their third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.

Gareth Bale shone in the four-goal thriller, netting two goals to give his side victory over the Merseyside club. The sole goal from Sadio Mane could not save Liverpool as two crucial mistakes from Karius cost them the European title.

The mistakes led to a whole storm on the internet and out of it, with pundits and fans lambasting the goalkeeper for the blunders that eventually led to the end of his services for the club.

The heart of the matter

Liverpool's current goalkeeper Alisson, who watched the disaster unfold at home, said that he was sad to see what happened to Karius.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, the 26-year-old said, "Even when my team scores after a big mistake from the opposition keeper, it’s a different feeling for me. I don’t celebrate it like any other goal."

"I know what goes through the mind of a goalkeeper in those kind of moments. I was so sad to see what happened to Karius – it could have happened to anyone."

Karius is presently playing at Turkish club Besiktas on loan while Alisson and Simon Mignolet are at Anfield.

What's next?

While the club crashed out of the FA Cup following a loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool still remain at the top of the Premier League table with 54 points. The side will hope to extend their four-point lead when they face Brighton on Saturday.
