Manchester United fight back with rejuvenated bid for Barca's Cesc Fabregas

Manchester United have returned to the fray with a fresh bid of £30m plus for Barcelona‘s key midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to Sky sources.

Although Barcelona have strongly dismissed claims of letting go of Fabregas, United manager David Moyes has said in an open statement that signing on a new midfielder is his top priority ahead of the new season.

In a desperate attempt to land Moyes his first big signing ever since the former Everton manager arrived at Old Trafford, United have fought back with a juicy new bid after having failed with a bid of around £25m last week.

Barcelona vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu was quoted by Spanish daily Sport on Friday: “Barcelona can assure you we will not entertain any offers for Cesc. It is totally ruled out, he’s not for sale.”

Chief executive Ed Woodward called off his pre-season tour with the English club on Wednesday in order to return to Europe to carry out urgent transfer business, evidently indicating an major arrival at Old Trafford.

On asking goalkeeper David de Gea his reaction on welcoming Fabregas at Old Trafford, he was heard telling the Daily Mail: “He is a great player, very skilful, knows how to win things and you always want those type of players in your team.”

Dutch striker Robin van Persie also revealed that he would be quite thrilled to be reunited with his former Arsenal teammate, provided the Spanish midfielder would join the United squad.

Questioning van Persie who is currently in Sydney, after United’s 5-1 pre-season victory over the A-League Al Stars, on whether he would welcome Fabregas, van Persie said: “Of course, he’s a great player.”

After the recent clash in Australia, Moyes was quizzed on any recent developments and he had to say this: “I’ve not had any more news since we last spoke yesterday.

“I have no more updates so I couldn’t give you anything positive or negative.”
