Mumbai City FC condemned Roberto Carlos’ Delhi Dynamos side to a 2-0 defeat in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at Mumbai’s Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium yesterday. The Dynamos looked a bit flat at times and found Sony Norde and Sunil Chhetri too hot too handle as Mumbai City FC picked up their first win of the season.

The defeat was Delhi Dynamos second of the season and ended a three game winning streak for Roberto Carlos’ side. But the Brazilian wasn’t too miffed with the loss and admitted that he expected the game against Mumbai City FC to be an extremely tough one.

“Before we came to Mumbai, I knew this was going to a very difficult game for us as I had very little time prepare my team for this game. Plus they were in a very difficult situation and badly needed to win the game,” said Carlos.

Robert Carlos who made 125 appearances for the Brazilian National Team and 370 appearances for Spanish Giants Real Madrid, revealed that his experience told him that teams struggling at the bottom of the leagues are always difficult to play against as their motivation levels are mostly very high and for teams sitting pretty at the top, it becomes difficult to match it.

“I told my players that I have been in such situations before with Real Madrid or the Brazilian National Team, when the team at the top faces a team at the bottom and the team at the bottom is extremely motivated to win the match.

“Today was the same, Mumbai City FC just wanted it more than us and hence they won it. I feel Mumbai deserved to win and I congratulate them for the result,” said a humble Roberto Carlos as he portrayed great amount of grace in defeat.

The former Real Madrid left-back refused to criticize his players, while stressing that it’s not the way he deals with his players. “I promise you one thing, that I never criticize my players in the press conference. I don’t believe in that, that’s not my way. If I have any problems with my players, then I solve it only with them and not here,” the Delhi Dynamos gaffer said.

Delhi Dynamos continue their travels but have a week’s time to prepare for their next game at the Salt Lake stadium as they get ready to enter the lion’s den. Champions Atletico de Kolkata are the worst team one could face while attempting to bounce back from a loss, but there is no doubt that Roberto Carlos would get his Delhi Dynamos side up for that game when it comes around in a week’s time.
