Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino's team has been on the ascendancy in the last few weeks. The Blues have a chance to finish fifth in the league if Tottenham lose their final game against Sheffield United, coupled with Chelsea beating Bournemouth.

When asked if he wishes for Tottenham to lose the last game and open up the fifth spot for the Blues, Pochettino replied (via Football London):

"Not really. I never wish bad things to the club. We need to do our job."

Chelsea are currently sixth in the league with 60 points after 37 games. Spurs have 63 points but an inferior goal difference of 10 to Chelsea's 13. A defeat for Tottenham will mean that the Blues will have to just win against Bournemouth at home on May 19 to finish fifth in the league.

Chelsea are coming off a 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion while Spurs lost their last game 2-0 to Manchester City.

Chelsea have been in good form since Christmas 2024

The Blues had a slow start to the season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino. Chelsea picked up 25 points in the first 19 games, ranking 10th in the table for the first half of games.

However, since Christmas, the Blues have enjoyed an upturn in form, and have picked up 35 points in 18 games, ranking fourth in the table for the second half of games.

The Blues are unbeaten in their last five games since the 5-0 loss to Arsenal on April 23 at the Emirates. Since then, they have drawn 2-2 against Aston Villa and then beaten Tottenham 2-0, West Ham United 5-0, Nottingham Forest 3-2, and lastly Brighton 2-1.

Chelsea are now set to finish in an European spot this season. They are trailed by Newcastle United, who are on 57 points, level on points with Manchester United, but ahead of them on goal difference. The Blues also reached the semifinals of the FA Cup and the final of the EFL Cup.
