PSG fail in talks to sign Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football advisor Luis Campos has held talks with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over a potential move, according to RMC Sport (via @PSGhub on Twitter).

However, the European giants have reportedly failed to lure the Spanish boss to the Parc des Princes, with their chances of signing him understood to be virtually nil.

Arteta joined the Gunners as head coach in December of 2019. The Spanish boss struggled to perform during his first two seasons in charge. The north London outfit finished in eighth place in the league standings during the 2019-20 as well as the 2020-21 campaign.

As a result, Arteta came under criticism from the club's supporters for his inability to deliver.

The former Barcelona midfielder, however, managed to somewhat turn things around at the club the following season. The north London outfit finished fifth in the Premier League table, just two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, and earned a spot in the UEFA Europa League.

The Gunners then surprisingly emerged as title contenders during the 2022-23 season, displaying some exceptional form under Arteta. The north London outfit dominated the No.1 spot in the league standings for the majority of the campaign.

They became fresh challengers to the title after Manchester City and Liverpool's dominance in recent times. However, Arsenal were unable to end their 19-year drought for a league title after a string of losses in April.

Manchester City overtook the Gunners to retain their crown and went on to achieve a historic treble.

"I am not sure he is the man you want” - Arsenal urged not to sign Chelsea star

Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has warned Arsenal against signing Kai Havertz. The Englishman believes the German international would not be a good fit in Arteta's side.

The Gunners are interested in signing the former Bayer Leverkusen forward. An initial bid from Arsenal has been rejected by the Blues, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Cundy detailed his reasons why the north London outfit should stay away from Havertz. He said on talkSPORT (as quoted by HITC):

“Technically he is a brilliant footballer. For me, though, he lacks a bit of heart. If you are in a battle, I am not sure he is the man you want. The thing for me, if I was an Arsenal fan, that would concern me is he goes missing. He lacks a little bit of steel, a little bit of fight, he can drift out of games very, very quickly.”
