Jamie Redknapp named Enzo Fernandez as the Chelsea player he felt sorry for. The Blues have had a disastrous campaign, as they sit 12th in the Premier League with 43 points from 36 games.

They suffered a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad in the Premier League game on Sunday (May 21), with Julian Alvarez scoring the winner. After the game, Redknapp singled out Fernandez as the player he felt bad for, telling Sky Sports:

“Get this season over with. I’m looking at Enzo right now, looks a bit lost, feel a bit sorry for him.”

The Argentine midfielder joined Chelsea for a British record transfer fee of €121 million in January. While he has impressed on an individual level since his arrival from Benfica, providing two assists in 20 games, the team have been below par.

The player, who won the young player award in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, will look to change his club's fortunes soon.

What Frank Lampard said about his Chelsea future?

Frank Lampard will stay in charge of Chelsea for two more games as the caretaker manager. He will leave at the end of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino being the reported frontrunner to take over.

However, regardless of who arrives, the next manager will have a task in their hand to rebuild a squad that has been poor this season. Lampard, when asked about the future of the squad, said after the defeat against Manchester City (via football.london):

"I can't predict. It's down to the players; for the club, it will be down to the direction taken forward and the new coach. To get to where Manchester City are, a lot of work needs to align. Every player has to work to see if we can get back to where we need to be."

The legendary midfielder was also asked whether he would like to stay as one of the coaches. He replied:

"No, a new manager will come in and bring his own coaches."

The Blues are also expected to make a few signings in the summer, with a striker being one of the main positions to strengthen.
